“To Crust Pizza With Love” Project Aims to Raise $100,000

The Lions Club of Singapore and Crust Gourmet Pizza have announced a fund raising initiative entitled “To Crust Pizza With Love”. The project aims to raise $100,000 in aid of the elders under the care of the Lions Home For the Elders & Lions Befrienders Service Association (Singapore).

This fund-raising initiative by LCS Stamford, LCS East, LCS Amber and LCS Goodwood from Zone 11 Region 4 of Lions International Multiple District 308-A1 is sponsored by Crust Gourmet Pizza.

After its successful August 2010 launch, Australia’s award-winning pizza chain, Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar is committed to contributing to the society through a fund-raising campaign. The public can participate by purchasing tickets that will be made available at the Lions Club of Singapore network and at Crust’s outlet at Lorong Mambong. For every $20 ticket sold, $15 will be contributed to both the Lions Home for the Elders & Lions Befrienders Service Association Singapore. Tickets purchased will be entitled to a free 13” x 8” Crust Gourmet pizza of their choice. These are redeemable at Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar in Lorong Mambong, Holland Village.

In line with supporting the health and longevity of elders, Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar is introducing two new pizzas that are rich in calcium, protein, fibre as well as low salt content to its menu:

•Tomato Zing is a well-balanced, delicious gourmet pizza that is rich in Lycopene and anti-oxidants to help avoid health complications and cancer cell formation.

•Carbo Roast Chicken Fillet Pizza is topped with protein rich fresh chicken meat that is low in fat. By balancing protein with vegetables and carbohydrates, seniors can enjoy chicken without a high cholesterol intake.

The elderly will enjoy the flavour of these two new carefully-made, diet-based gourmet pizzas designed to provide the nutrients they need for health and longevity.

Enriching and enhancing people’s lives has been the thrust of Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar community engagement. In Australia, Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar has been very active in fund raising projects for the communities where they operate. The company is currently raising funds to support the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, a National body working to reduce the impact of prostate cancer on Australian men, their partners and families, and the community.

Their other charity drives include the well-received Tour De Cure held last May, a charity cycle race to raise funds for Australian cancer societies.

“We are committed to working with charitable institutions to raise funds for good causes in the communities where our stores operate. Our collaboration with the local Lions Club gives us the opportunity to contribute towards improving the lives of the elderly in Singapore,” said Costa Anastasiadis, Crust’s co-founder and managing director.

“Since our inception in 1958, Lions Club of Singapore has been at the forefront of meeting the needs of the elders in our communities”, said Lions Club District Governor, Lion Steven Seah, PBM. “With Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar and society’s help, we will be able to increase our support in providing medical and nursing care and much needed regular treatment for our beloved senior citizens. This is our way of giving thanks to our elderly who have been instrumental in developing the nation from a humble fishing village to today’s economic powerhouse.”

“We hope that the launch of the “To Crust Pizza With Love” fundraising campaign will rekindle the awareness from the community about the constant need of our senior citizens for sufficient healthcare treatment”, said Chris Chan, Chairman, Organizing Committee, To Crust With Love project.
